Current events in research and teaching in the participating disciplines

The Department of Solid Mechanics is heavily involved in the basic education of all engineering disciplines at Clausthal University of Technology. In addition, a number of lectures are provided for students, which are seen as necessary for design engineers with a focus on research and development. In research, the group works on the topics of experimental mechanics, continuum mechanics, mathematical modeling of materials, and computational mechanics. The focus is on the development of constitutive models to describe the stress and deformation behavior of materials for small and finite deformations and their implementation in finite element programs. The areas are embedded in the overarching issue of verification and validation of numerical calculations.
