Vita
Born in Hamburg in1937 as the son of the pianist Hedwig, née Krollmann, and the first violinist Herbert Jischa of the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra. Father killed in action in Russia in 1942, bombed out in Hamburg in 1943. Grew up in Niendorf/Baltic Sea, attended the Ostseegymnasium Timmendorfer Strand until his secondary school leaving certificate in 1954. Apprenticeship as a motor vehicle mechanic, then from 1958 to 1961 studied aircraft and motor vehicle construction at the Hamburg School of Engineering and obtained his subject-specific university entrance qualification. Worked for six months as a design engineer at Hamburg Aircraft Construction (later Airbus).
1961 to 1965 Studied mechanical engineering at the TH Karlsruhe and was awarded the Redtenbacher Prize. Doctoral student at the Institute of Turbomachinery and Fluid Mechanics in the group of Prof. Alfred Walz, who accepted an appointment to the newly established Institute of Supersonic Technology at the TU Berlin in 1967. Moved to Berlin, where he obtained his doctorate in 1968 and his habilitation in fluid mechanics in 1971.
1971 Transfer to the Chair of Heat and Mass Transfer (Prof. Karl Stephan) at the Institute of Thermofluid Dynamics at the Ruhr University Bochum, where the Chairs of Fluid Mechanics (Prof. Klaus Gersten) and Thermodynamics (Prof. Hans Dieter Baehr) had previously been occupied.
1973 Appointment as adjunct professor.
1974 H4 Professor of Fluid Mechanics at the UGH Essen, now the University of Duisburg-Essen.
1981 C4 Professor of Fluid Mechanics at the Institute of Technical Mechanics at Clausthal University of Technology.
2002 Early retirement on request, as I wanted to devote more time to the topics of society and technology.

Reorientation at the TU Clausthal
In the winter semester 1991/92 I gave an evening lecture in the Studium Generale "The Challenge of the Future" in the Audimax. The TUC had around 3000 students at the time. The Audimax had 300 seats and the audience sat on the steps. In addition to students, relatives and colleagues, there were listeners from the region. The timing could not have been better, as the "UNCED"(United Nations Conference on Environment and Development), the "Rio Conference on Environment and Development", took place in June 1992.
The lecture resulted in the 1993 book "The Challenge of the Future - Technological progress and ecological perspectives". Requests from students for further lectures of this type led to the development of the lecture notes "technology assessment" and "Dynamic systems in nature, technology and society". At the same time, the series designed by Prof. Edmund Brandt (University of Lüneburg) "Studies in Environmental Sciences" series conceived by Prof. Edmund Brandt (University of Lüneburg), four volumes were published by Springer-Verlag: "Economics", "Law", "Social Sciences" and "Natural Sciences". The outstanding fifth volume "Engineering Sciences" a little later (Springer 2004). It became the official book for theYear of Technology 2004 of the VDI. The book "The Challenge of the Future" (1993) was published as an expanded 2nd edition with a new subtitle "The Challenge of the Future - Technical Progress and Globalization" (Spektrum/Elsevier 2005) and later as a paperback version (Springer Spektrum 2014).
Since 1992, these activities have led to me lecturing exclusively on topics such as sustainability andtechnology assessment and society and technology hold. This applies equally to the publications since 1992.all of the dissertations and habilitations I have supervised have since been dedicated to these topics. New memberships were the result. The turnaround is described in chapter 34 of my latest book "Dynamics in nature and technology - understanding and shaping change" (oekom 2018) describes it.
In 1992, in collaboration with the then student pastor Klaus Wachlin, I founded the working group "Forum Clausthal" as an institution of the Academic Senate, which I headed until 2002 (when I retired). Every semester, Studium Generale events of various kinds were held in the Audimax with the support of colleagues. The events are published in a series "Forum Clausthal" series. I advocate continuing the idea of "Clausthal Forum" in a streamlined form with one public evening lecture per semester.
The shortest justification for my reorientation is described in the legendary book "The Limits to Growth" (Meadows et al. 1972), the first report to the Club of Rome. I have been associated with the German Club of Rome Society since 1988.
